No Spall Bullet-Resistant Glass

No spall bullet resistant laminates combine multiple layers of glass and polycarbonate bonded with advanced interlayers to deliver superior ballistic protection and occupant safety.

The glass layers provide strength, rigidity, and optical clarity, while the polycarbonate layers absorb and dissipate ballistic energy upon impact. A mar resistant polycarbonate layer positioned on the protected side of the glazing prevents dangerous glass fragments (spall) from being released into the occupied space, enhancing safety during a ballistic event.

Low Spall Bullet-Resistant Glass

Low spall bullet resistant glazing systems are constructed from multiple layers of glass, polycarbonate and interlayer materials designed to provide reliable ballistic protection while maintaining excellent optical clarity and durability.

Unlike no-spall systems that incorporate a polycarbonate layer as the last layer of protection, low-spall laminates utilize glass on the protected side of the assembly. When impacted by ballistic threats, the glazing is engineered to stop projectile penetration; however, some glass spall may be generated on the safe side of the unit. For this reason, low-spall products are commonly specified in applications where building occupants are not positioned near the protected surface of the glass.

A key advantage of low spall constructions are simplified maintenance and long-term durability. Since there is no exposed polycarbonate surface, the glazing is less susceptible to damage from incompatible cleaning agents and routine cleaning procedures.
